Emu chick (Dromaius novaehollandiae)

Emu chicks have amazing coloration. I am not sure whether it serves as camouflage in places with a lot of light and dark patches or it is warning coloration because the father who is always close by can easily kill most the the predators likely to pursue the chick. I know I am not getting between the chick and dad.
